Hilary Weston, an Irish Canadian former trend mannequin, twenty sixth lieutenant-governor of Ontario and businesswoman, has died, her household mentioned in a press release on Sunday. She was 83.
Weston served as Ontario’s lieutenant-governor from 1997 to 2002, after being appointed by then- Progressive Conservative premier Mike Harris, and held numerous government roles within the trend trade on either side of the Atlantic, together with at Holt Renfrew in Canada and Brown Thomas & Co. in Eire.
The Irish-born Weston was invested into the Order of Canada in 2005 for her public service and philanthropic work.
She was married to the late Canadian billionaire Galen Weston, and the couple had two youngsters.
“Our mom lived with unwavering devotion to her household and a perception within the energy and significance of neighborhood and repair,” her son Galen Jr. mentioned within the assertion.
Simon Harris, a minister within the Irish authorities, mentioned in a press release that Weston “served each Eire and Canada with distinction and generosity,” citing her management of the Canadian chapter of Eire Funds.
