Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has denied having any current communication with European Fee President Ursula von der Leyen concerning a contentious draft regulation that may place two key anti-corruption companies underneath authorities management, stripping them of their independence.
“I’ve not communicated with Ursula von der Leyen in current days. Every thing that was written about it, the whole lot that she allegedly instructed me, is a faux. We didn’t have a dialog,” Zelenskyy instructed reporters on Thursday, in accordance with Ukrainian media retailers Interfax-Ukraine and European Pravda.
This contradicts a press release made on Wednesday by a Fee spokesperson, who stated von der Leyen had raised “sturdy issues” immediately with Zelenskyy and requested for explanations from the Ukrainian authorities.
The invoice sparked widespread backlash, triggering two days of avenue protests in Kyiv and mounting strain from EU leaders. In response, Zelenskyy made a swift U-turn, submitting a revised invoice aimed toward restoring and strengthening the independence of the companies.
