UN Secretary-Common Antonio Guterres on Thursday appointed Cong Guang as his new particular envoy for the Horn of Africa.

Cong succeeds Hanna Serwaa Tetteh of Ghana, to whom the secretary-general is “grateful for her management and devoted service” to the group, stated Stephanie Tremblay, affiliate spokesperson for the UN chief, at a day by day briefing.

Cong brings many years of worldwide affairs expertise to this place, with over 23 years of service in varied UN peace operations, and a good portion of this time was devoted to the broader Horn of Africa area, stated an announcement issued by the Workplace of the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-Common.

He presently serves as deputy particular consultant (political) for South Sudan and deputy head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.

Previous to becoming a member of the United Nations in 2002, Cong had a distinguished profession in China’s Ministry of Overseas Affairs, in line with the assertion.
