Porter Airways flight to Vancouver makes emergency touchdown in Regina

A planeload of Porter Airways passengers received an sudden detour to Regina on Tuesday night time, after their aircraft made an emergency touchdown.

The Embraer 195 jet had been cruising at 38,000 toes over Montana, en route from Hamilton, Ont., to Vancouver, when the aircraft immediately made a steep descent round 7:30 p.m. CT, then diverted to Regina Worldwide Airport.

Porter Airways has confirmed the aircraft cabin smelled of smoke.

The pilots landed the aircraft safely in Regina at 8:33 p.m. CT.

“The captain elected to land in Regina as a precaution as a result of odor of smoke within the cabin, though none was seen,” a spokesperson for Porter Airways wrote in an e-mail to CBC Information on Wednesday morning.

They stated the 85 passengers and 5 crew members onboard the flight stayed in motels in a single day and can proceed their journey to Vancouver on one other plane.

“We admire the Regina Airport’s assist on the bottom and the endurance of passengers as we prioritize secure operations,” the e-mail stated.

A steep descent

The plane is recorded on Flight Radar 24 as descending at 10,000 toes per minute at one level.

Then, the plane turns as if it is perhaps heading to Calgary and climbs again as much as 14,000 toes.

Then the plane turned towards Regina once more, and the pilots started a extra regular descent towards YQR, touchdown safely at 8:33 p.m.

Porter Airways has not but confirmed what brought about the odor of smoke.
