(ECNS) — The world’s longest-living crested ibis bred in captivity, “Pingping,” has died at Beijing Zoo, the zoo stated on Monday.
Pingping lived for almost 40 years. In 1986, Beijing Zoo established a captive-breeding heart for crested ibises underneath the management of Li Fulai, a famend skilled in crested ibis conservation and copy, marking the beginning of China’s ex-situ conservation efforts for the species.
In the identical 12 months, Pingping was transferred from Yangxian County in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. Along with one other crested ibis named “Qingqing,” Pingping produced 27 offspring, forming the inspiration of China’s first captive crested ibis inhabitants.
