A 35-year-old man was killed and his non-public elements have been mutilated by a gaggle of villagers in Odisha’s Gajapati district on suspicion of practising witchcraft, police mentioned on Sunday.
In line with police, the villagers strangled the person and lower off his genitals earlier than dumping the physique within the close by Harabhangi Dam. The physique was recovered from the reservoir on Sunday morning and despatched for autopsy examination.
The villagers are believed to have suspected him of being liable for the demise of a girl within the village round two weeks in the past, reportedly as a result of black magic.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Malasapadar village, which falls underneath the jurisdiction of Mohana police station.
Suresh Chandra Tripathy, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of G Udayagiri, mentioned that 14 villagers have been detained for questioning in reference to the incident.
Police mentioned the person had earlier left the village along with his household and gone to his father-in-law’s home in Ganjam district after dealing with threats from locals. He had requested his sister-in-law to take care of his livestock.
The sufferer had returned to the village on Saturday to take his cattle and goats when he was kidnapped and killed.
