According to the steps to modernise the Military’s artillery regiments and improve operational readiness, indigenously-made Superior Towed Artillery Gun Techniques (ATAGS) will substitute the classic and smaller calibre weapons, with the Defence Ministry on Wednesday calling the venture an “exemplary mission mode success”.
ATAGS is designed by Armament Analysis and Growth Institution (ARDE), Pune, a laboratory of the Defence Analysis & Growth Organisation (DRDO).
The ministry shared a submit on X together with a video showcasing ATAGS, whose most vary is 48 km.
“We began this venture within the 12 months 2012. And, inside a span of 12 years, we might full the entire technique of design to manufacturing, testing and induction,” stated ARDE Director A Raju within the recorded video.

Earlier on March 26, the Defence Ministry had signed contracts with Bharat Forge Restricted and Tata Superior System Restricted for the procurement of 155mm/52 Calibre Superior Towed Artillery Gun Techniques (ATAGS) and Excessive Mobility Car 6×6 Gun Towing Automobiles respectively at a complete value of about Rs 6,900 crore.
The 155 mm/52 calibre ATAGS will substitute the classic and smaller calibre weapons and improve the artillery capabilities of the Indian Military.
The timeline for supply of 307 ATAGS is predicted to be 5 years, Raju stated.
The ministry in its submit stated, “ATAGS, @DRDO_India’s flagship artillery system, is spearheading the #IndianArmy’s artillery modernisation’, an exemplary Mission Mode success.” “It brings collectively #DRDO, the Indian Military, and each private and non-private sectors to strengthen #AatmanirbharBharat in defence. With its all-electric drive for gun laying and ammunition dealing with, #ATAGS ensures dependable, maintenance-free efficiency even within the hardest mountain and desert terrains,” it stated.
