Chemnitz (dpa) – In Chemnitz, the European Capital of Tradition, the German Environmental Award will probably be offered at this time (Sunday). Endowed with half one million euros, the award will go to a Swiss local weather researcher and an organization from North Rhine-Westphalia for its resource-efficient metal galvanisation approach. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will probably be presenting the prize on the Stadthalle in Chemnitz.  

Swiss scientist Sonia Isabelle Seneviratne is being awarded the prize in Chemnitz for her local weather analysis. In response to the DBU, Seneviratne, who’s a professor at ETH Zürich and vp of the Intergovernmental Panel on Local weather Change (IPCC), has produced new insights into the way in which the local weather system works – particularly regarding how soil humidity, vegetation and the ambiance affect each other. One of many causes the German metal galvanisation firm Zinq is receiving the award is for creating an modern galvanisation approach (“microZINQ”) that saves assets and power within the space of corrosion safety.  

The German Environmental Award is offered by the German Federal Atmosphere Basis (DBU) every year to honour decisive and exemplary achievements for the safety and preservation of the setting. In response to the DBU, it’s certainly one of Europe’s most extremely endowed environmental prizes.
